The Out Of Towners
Some strangers find they're not welcome
The neighbours just silently stare
And later the windows get broken
They don't like the smell of the food that they cook
Or the funny things that they wear
And everyone's brave in a big crowd
So being brave's easy to do
Follow the leaders whose voices are loud
Light the torches and kick in the doors
Makes a man out of you
Chorus:
The out of towners don't do anything wrong
But they're always getting the blame
And the bigots stand up and say 'Now times are tough
They should go back to from wherever they came
It's not so much that they're different
As much as they're not quite the same
The out of towners are scum by any other name'
Too many people stay silent
And won't stand up for anyone's sake
They cover their eyes from the violence
Sleeping with shame may be hard but it's better
Than letting it keep you awake
History has to start somewhere
It may be in your hometown
It's a hard choice to make, it doesn't seem fair
They punish you too if you stand in their way
They trample you if you lie down
Chorus
