Plaza Hotel

He was sitting in the Plaza Hotel
Drinking tea like some rich women do
He was looking around at the dumb empty faces
He longed to be one of them too

And the waiters were crawling so low
Drinks were ten dollars a shot
He was thinking about women, he was thinking about cars
And other things that he hadn't got

It could be a dream coming true
It could be a nightmare as well
Waiting at the Plaza Hotel

She wore clothes worth a million words
You could smell the romance on her breath
Her smile was so sharp it could cut you in two
Her face was colder than death

She said yes to the rose that he bought
She said no when his hand went down low
He said 'I don't understand, do you mean tonight or forever?'
When she asked where he wanted to go

They made a contract of love
At a price that she knew he would sell
We signed it at the Plaza Hotel

She sat back and watched the movie she'd made
He cried as the violin played

The guests all applauded and smiled
They'd all once been where he was as well
Been nowhere at the Plaza Hotel
Been no-one at the Plaza Hotel
